Topkapi Palace
We begin our tour with Topkapi Palace, which served as the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire for 400 years. Built by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, this palace stands out with its magnificent gates, harem rooms, and treasures. Inside, you’ll find important areas such as the Harem, the Sacred Relics section displaying holy items like the beard and sword of Prophet Muhammad, the Treasury which houses the sultans’ jewels and thrones, and the Divan-ı Hümayun, where important state decisions were made.
Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque)
One of the most magnificent examples of Ottoman architecture, the Sultanahmet Mosque was built in 1616 by Sultan Ahmed I. With its six minarets and elegant İznik tiles, it has become one of the symbols of Istanbul. The thousands of blue tiles inside the mosque create a mystical atmosphere, and the six minarets add to its grandeur, making it a rare feature. Additionally, the central dome, which stands at 43 meters high, offers an awe-inspiring architectural elegance.
Çemberlitaş Column
Çemberlitaş Column is a historic monument erected by Roman Emperor Constantine in 330, bearing witness to Istanbul’s layered history. The column was constructed to celebrate Istanbul’s establishment as the capital of the Roman Empire and is considered a symbol of victory brought from Rome. During the Ottoman period, it was restored after fires and earthquakes and has survived to the present day.
Süleymaniye Mosque and Complex
One of the most impressive stops on our tour is the Süleymaniye Mosque, considered the pinnacle of Ottoman architecture. Built by Mimar Sinan in 1557 on behalf of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, this mosque showcases a perfect balance of simplicity and grandeur. The architectural brilliance of the Süleymaniye Mosque and Complex is evident in its acoustic design and lighting system, reflecting Mimar Sinan’s genius. The complex, which includes a madrasa, hammam, imaret, and hospital, offers valuable insights into Ottoman society. Additionally, the tombs of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and Hurrem Sultan are located here, providing the opportunity to visit the graves of two of the most powerful figures in Ottoman history.
Grand Bazaar
The Grand Bazaar is one of the oldest and largest markets in the world and was the center of commerce during the Ottoman Empire. With more than 4,000 shops, it offers a wide variety of products such as jewelry, spices, carpets, and antiques. Here, you can find handmade jewelry and carpets adorned with Ottoman motifs. The market also features spices and Turkish delights that reflect the rich flavors of Ottoman cuisine. Antique lovers can explore historical objects and special collectible items.
Spice Bazaar
The Spice Bazaar, an important center of spice trade during the Ottoman era, excites your senses with its colorful stalls and exotic scents. Here, you can discover rare spices used in Ottoman cuisine. There’s also an opportunity to try traditional Turkish delights and sweets. Additionally, you can find healing herbs and natural skincare products at the bazaar.
